When one sees the Nordhavn 47 for the first time, the first reaction is always, “this is one big boat!”  But even standing next to her, it’s hard to imagine how much room there is on the inside.

Throughout the boat, there is 6 feet, 6 inches of headroom or more.  Even the engine room has 6 feet, 2 inches of headroom.  With a beam of 16 feet, her interior volume is enormous.  The main saloon has two seating areas, each of which can become an overnight berth.  A heavy duty, Dutch door opens to the aft cockpit, creating an expanded living area in fair weather.

Listening to hundreds of owners over the years, a great amount of attention was paid to designing a galley that rivals the finest home gourmet kitchens.  An industrial styled Thermadore stove and oven are complimented by a microwave, and a Sub-Zero refrigerator with ice-maker is standard.  For serious cruisers, there is room for another Sub-Zero freezer.  A trash compactor and deep, double sinks complete the galley package.  Long lasting granite counter tops, and stone or tile flooring add a touch of elegance as well as practicality.  Surrounded by beautifully finished drawers and cabinets, there is ample storage for extensive galley gear and supplies.  Anticipating long cruises in remote areas, the N47 boasts a separate washer and dryer with external venting.  The days of roughing it are over.

Stepping up to the spacious wheelhouse, the captain will readily see himself in command of his dream vessel.  And he won’t be alone, as up to six crew members can fit in this expanded space.  More importantly, there is room for a full sized, fixed helm chair.  The bottoms of two of the five, forward facing windows can be opened for ventilation, and an overhead hatch adds to the airy atmosphere.  Three large panels of non-glare material allow for the installation of a comprehensive electronics package, and overhead panels provide room for engine instrumentation and additional electronics.

Full size chart stowage is located under the pilothouse settee, and a folding chart table is to port.  Behind the helm chair is a table, settee and a pilot berth for off-watch crew.  Port and starboard Dutch doors welcome the outside sights and sounds during fair weather.  Thanks to extraordinary sound reducing measures taken in the engine room, noise levels in the pilothouse are a mere whisper.  Completing this well-thought-out space is a large wet locker adjacent to the door that opens to the wide, starboard side deck.

Stepping down from the pilothouse, one enters the vast accommodations area made possible by the generous beam and freeboard of the hull design.  The standard layout features two large staterooms and two heads.  The owner’s room is midships, where the least pitching motion is experienced and where anchor chain noise is at a minimum.

With storage under the double berth, large hanging lockers, a vanity area and plenty of drawers, packing for a year’s voyage is no problem.  Even the head and separate stall shower are super-sized.

The guest stateroom is so spacious and comfortable, it is often mistaken for the owner’s room.  With a double berth to port and a full sized desk to starboard, it can serve many needs.  The private head with shower is far forward, allowing the berth and living space to be located further aft for greater comfort.

Everywhere you look, you will see the signs of Nordhavn’s exquisite craftsmanship and attention to detail.  The joinerwork is superb, the wood is hand selected, and the fixtures are of the highest quality.  Nordhavn owners spend a lot of time on their boats, and they have come to expect a level of fit and finish that rivals the most luxurious yachts made today.
