Around The World Voyage : Commentary : Leg 3

March 30, 2002

We are in Glyfada Marina No. 4 tied stern to the sea wall. Glyfada in a nice small town about 30 minutes south of the heart of Athens. The boat arrived safely at 17:30 on March 27. After a big night of celebration and a couple of long days of getting the boat ready we are almost prepared to begin our leg of the journey. We are waiting on a couple of parts being shipped from the U.S. Hopefully they should arrive by Monday. The weather report looks pretty good with the exception of some strong wind predicted for the area around Sicily and the Straights of Messina for some time around Monday and Tuesday. I think we will miss it considering our ETD of Monday.

Aboard the boat for leg no. 3 will be Pete Eunson, project manager of the Nordhavn 40, Justin Zumwalt, project manager of the Nordhavn 57, and myself, Jeff Leishman, designer of the Nordhavn line of yachts. We are also fortunate enough to have a guest aboard for the first 1000 miles of or trip, Tim Clark from Power and Motoryacht magazine will accompany us to Palma de Mallorca on the island of Mallorca. Mallorca is the largest island in the Balearic Islands located off of the coast of Spain.

Since I have spent the least amount of time sight seeing and getting the feel of Greece, I will ask Pete or Justin to fill you in on all the great adventures they had. Both of them arrived early to take advantage of the opportunity to see this unbelievable place.

Look for Jim's full recap upon his return to the states. They had a wild couple of week at the end of their leg.
