Around The World Voyage : Commentary : Leg 3
April 11, 2002
We are underway again after a brief stop in Palma de Mallorca. Palma is such a beautiful place and the people are so friendly. Quite a contrast to Athens. Our clearance into Palma took all of about 15 minutes. On our approach to the harbor I had contacted the people at Real Club Nautica to alert them to our arrival. I was told to go the waiting area at the fuel dock and wait for someone to help me.As we came up to the fuel dock a nice guy from the marina was there to help us tie up and then promptly whisked me away with the ships papers to the check in area. Everything was handled there, our clearance into Spain, slip assignment and all with a great attitude like they were really happy to have us.
Then, to our delight ,the location of our moorage put us directly in front of the yacht club which served $1.00 beers. We though we had died and gone to heaven (until the next morning).
So now after a couple of days cleaning, provisioning and changing oil, with a bit of sight seeing thrown in, we are on our way to the Canary Islands some 1100 miles south. We had to say good bye to our old crew member Tim Clark from Power and Motoryacht magazine. Tim was team player and a good sport, we'll miss him. I always find that when I am delivering a boat some where, essentially that's what we are doing, no matter how nice the places are that you stop at along the way, it's a relief to get back on the boat and get going again.
We all Agreed that Mallorca is a place that we will someday return to but for now we just want to keep moving on.
