Around The World Voyage : Commentary : Leg 3
April 26, 2002
We are less than 170 miles from Cape Verde and expect to be in around this time tomorrow. We have been making great speed averaging 7.4 knots.
The day started out with Jeff and Pete getting a clean head shave on the aft deck, my head was done yesterday... The weather could not be better, a freezing 80 degrees with almost zero wind. We just stopped the boat to go for a quick swim in about 12,000 feet of 75 degree deep blue water. While we were swimming we found that there was a nylon fishing net wrapped around the prop so we cut her loose. After a quick inspection of the bottom we are underway again.
Last evening was a cause for celebration as we landed our first fish, a 15 lb. Bluefin tuna. We had fresh sushi with lemon, soy and wasabi and then had some great baked fillets for dinner. It was the perfect size fish to feed three hungry guys. I told Jeff and Pete I wouldn't let them down. Now we are after some Dorado and Wahoo.
