San
Diego, California! We are here to check back into the United
States. Many thoughts come to mind as this is the close of
our ATW trip - the most important being we are successful!
We have accomplished quite a bit with this circumnavigation.
I think back to that horrible day of September 11th and we
could have pulled the plug on this journey. Fortunately we
did not, and on November 3, 2001, Nordhavn 40 departed from
Dana Point Harbor and she has now run continuously for over
4,700 engine hours. She deserves a rest. But the amazing thing
about this little ship is there is no doubt in my mind that
we could do some maintenance, fuel her, stock her stores and
she would be ready to do it all over again!
It
has been an amazing trip for the company, a true learning
experience and no doubt we will be pushing the voyaging envelope
forward once again with our experience gained from this trip.
For our customers, it has also been a learning experience
which has provided them with better knowledge of what is needed
for supplies as well as what to expect in their own voyages
throughout the globe. For our future Nordhavn customers, the
benefit goes in numerous directions. I am personally thrilled
to be able to share our knowledge with them in building their
dream passagemaker.
The
excitement to back home with my family is also very much on
my mind but the time away from them is worth what was given
to this project. We can honestly say, Nordhavn is truly oceans
apart from the rest.
As
friend and Nordhavn 46 owner Fred Caron would say, "A Nordhavn
is the absolute best and proven magic carpet for viewing the
world...now go see it!"
