If your main engine is kaput, do you have a "get home" backup?

The NORDHAVN 40 has a separate propulsion engine which we call a wing engine. This is a 27 horsepower Yanmar diesel with its own separate transmission, propeller, starting battery and fuel system. If we lost our main engine or damaged our propeller, transmission or propeller shaft, or even had bad fuel or water in our fuel, our wing engine can be run continuously and can push us along at about 5 knots - less in rough weather.
