Dave Asaibrnr of Singer Island, FL asks:

I was interested in the process of Oil changes at sea. Does Nordhavn have tanks to store new and used oil and the old oil is pumped out and new oil in or is the oil stored in the original container? How much oil do you carry? What about other fluids not including water and fuel?

Jim Leishman responds:

All of our oil changes take place in port. The duration of most of the legs allows us to not have to worry about "at sea" changes. We do carry enough oil onboard to do at least one oil change just in case we can't get any in the next port that we arrive at. On the N40 we do not have tanks for oil we simply carry jugs and we keep a 5 gallon bucket onboard for the used oil. In addition to the 30 wt. oil for the main engine and genset, we carry 10-40 wt. for the Naiad stabilizers and we carry Hynautic hydraulic steering fluid as well.
