**Jeff
Douthwaite of Seattle, WA, asks:**

**I
derived a formula for wave height using only a bathroom scale
and a watch. Assuming ship is running broadside to seas. H
= (Fmax-Fmin)/weight x Psquared x 0.816 where Fmax is max
reading from scale, Fmin is min, and P is period of the cycle
in seconds. Let me know if it works! **

Jim Leishman responds:

Jeff, thanks for the suggestion for an enertia type wave measuring system. I'd be interested to try this however we don't have a bathroom scale aboard the ATW boat. Maybe we can try it on a local vessel.
