ACCOMMODATIONS & LAYOUT:

MAIN SALOON AND GALLEY:

Entering the saloon your first view will be one of a very open and elegant interior. The teak joinery is beautiful and is well complimented by the granite countertops and teak and spruce sole.  This single level room merges a spacious saloon with an extremely functional galley making it easy to prepare, cook and serve meals and refreshments while enjoying the company of guests.   The saloon features an extra large built-in teak dinette table with a starburst wood inlay to port with an L-shaped settee (abundant storage beneath).  To starboard is a TV cabinet with large TV on a powered lift, and 2 Ekornes chairs. The settees (and chairs) are upholstered with Ultra Leather which is as comfortable as leather and yet is very practical. Also included are two factory custom bar stools done in teak wood.

The salon and the entire ship, including the flat-screen TVs in the salon and master suite, are wired with a state-of-the-art Bose sound system.  The Salon, pilot house master stateroom and guest stateroom feature satellite TV converters.

The saloon transitions down a couple steps into offshore functional galley that includes many brand name appliances.  One noticeable feature is the double basin sink which maximizes space for the rest of the galley counter top.  The faucet is a pull out type for rinsing dishes, made by Grohe.  The commercial grade GE propane range top with GE electric oven is truly an impressive appliance and it is properly trimmed with a stainless fiddle rail to secure pots and pans while cooking underway.  The granite counter tops extend up along the forward area.  There is excellent ventilation in the galley provided by an opening port light outboard.  A large Stainless Steel convection microwave with exhaust blower is provided for those quick meals when making passages.  There are plenty of overhead and under counter lockers for storing everything you need in a proper seagoing galley.   Also included are a GE trash compactor and GE dishwasher.  Forward and towards centerline is a full sized Sub Zero refrigerator and underneath are two Sub Zero freezer drawers for cold storage and the bottom drawer includes an icemaker.

Laundry Room:

From the galley one goes down stairs, in this area you have separate GE washer and dryer. Between the Bosch washer and dryer is top loading 7.2 cubic foot GE freezer with optional stainless work counter. Also you have the entrance to the engine room, with full standing room.

Above the freezer is a custom stainless-steel work-bench top that is easily secured in the up position for access to the freezer.

PILOTHOUSE:

The nerve center of the Nordhavn 55 is the pilothouse where you have an unimpeded view of your surroundings – or of your nav systems, live video shots from around the ship, or of your satellite TV or DVDs on any one of three large Furuno console screens.  The windows are all commercial strength.  Forward visibility is excellent through four large thick tempered glass panes.  The forward dash cabinetry is teak and includes dark Formica instrument panels. The overhead is finished in white Majilite with Cantalupi lights.

Secured in the center of the control area is a beautiful Stidd helm chair. The pilothouse is air conditioned with reverse cycle heating for optimum climate control.

Below the counter of the helm dash and just forward of the vertically mounted teak steering wheel, the wing engine and generator control panels are positioned so that they can be easily monitored while remaining out of the way.  There is circuit breaker panel that houses all of the, DC and AC breakers, the air conditioning select breakers and more.  All of the electrical panels are clearly labeled and the current flow gauges are easy to read digital displays.  All of the ships electrical distribution panels are hinged for access to wiring and each wire are labeled.

There is also a small enclosed cabin with a double berth, with lots of storage under this berth. For long passages with a husband wife team it’s nice to have someone close by. In this area we also have a separate head with a large opening port for great ventilation. This saves a lot of time of not having to go up and down stairs.

Just forward of the Pilot house cabin is a nice settee bench fronted by a permanent fixed teak wood table.  The wheelhouse upholstery is done in ultra leather. The settee includes stowage underneath; there are two slide-out chart drawers directly below the foot landing.  Another large locker is located aft by the galley stairs.

The pilothouse includes two Dutch doors – port and starboard – which lead out onto the Portuguese bridge.  Outside you can go up and aft to port to the boat deck, or out the starboard door make a quick turn to the foredeck or aft to walk along the covered side deck on your way to the cockpit.

The pilot house panel features many operational electronic extras plus receivers to transmit and receive wireless headset communication throughout the ship

GUEST STATEROOM:

The large VIP guest stateroom is forward, with separate head and shower stall.   There is a large double berth to port with drawers below and book shelves behind the berth. An additional sea berth has been added for extra crew or family as well.

Forward are a generous head with tiled floors and a large shower with bi-fold door. The sink has a generous surface area and there are plenty of storage lockers for personal effects.

In the forward area of the stateroom are two large, lighted and cedar lined hanging lockers on both sides.

To starboard in the guest stateroom is an impressive ‘office sized’ desk with swing out seat.

A separate air-conditioning digital control pad allows adjustment of temperature and included an outlet blower into the head.  There are two overhead outboard hatches in the center of the room and in the top of the shower.  There is plenty of light and available ventilation in this magnificent forward area. One very nice feature is that between the office area and the double berth is a by-fold door and a swing away bulkhead. When guest are aboard the area can become very private. When one wishes they can open the by-fold door and swing the mid bulkhead forward to make this area large and open. From this cabin through an opening floor hatch is a vast storage area that has to be seen to be believed. The stateroom also features a satellite TV converter and TV outlet.

MASTER STATEROOM:

There are two ways to access the owner’s stateroom. The first is from the main saloon and the second is from the stairway coming form the pilot house. The master is located amidships and the large queen sized island berth runs athartship for maximum comfort while underway. Stepping inside the stateroom you will also appreciate the large hanging lockers.  There are three opening port lights outboard to port. The master stateroom is air-conditioned. There are drawers under the bed. This is a very quiet place on the boat (even while underway!) and a nice reclusive area to read or sleep.

The master connects to a large head to starboard, which includes a fresh water toilet, granite counter and sink and a separate bath tub with shower!  This entire enclosure is designed for simple maintenance and is ventilated by two port lights and a shower exhaust blower.

Enjoy the wall mounted flat-screen TV with built-in DVD player, and listen to the audio, or enjoy music on the Bose speakers situated throughout the room.

Two custom Tempur-Pedic mattress pads make the master-suite bed, according to the owner, “the most comfortable bed I’ve ever slept on.”

ENGINE ROOM:

The engine room is located below the main saloon and is primarily accessed through the laundry room.  You can also enter via the aft door connecting the lazarette with the engine room and you can get into the engine room through the removable floor section of the saloon.  There is 6’ plus headroom around the optional extra large engine.

The 55 ER is exceptionally well layed out.  One of Nordhavns truly innovative passage-making developments is the simplification of all ships systems; specifically the fuel system and its relationship with the main engine. There is a built in fuel transfer and polishing system to keep your fuel clean.  The entire engine room is insulated with sound deadening foam and shrouded with perforated aluminum sheeting for a clean professional look.  All of the valves for fuel lines are clearly labeled and neatly tucked away behind easily opened hatches.  The through hulls are also clearly identified and easy to get to.  The amount of space in this area makes it a simple task to inspect the oil level of the generator and wing engine. The main engine has a keel cooler recessed in the hull and is dry stacked.

The engine room features a Lugger 70 HP wing engine to starboard – with its’ own day tank of fuel, and a 20kW Northern Lights generator to port. There is a Reverso oil change system for easy evacuation of the main, wing and generator– a key to ensuring machinery longevity. There

Many spare parts are included with the ship.

LAZARETTE:

Located beneath the aft deck cockpit, the lazarette is accessed via a fiberglass deck hatch. The hydraulic steering is located aft and there is also an emergency tiller mounted.  There are through hulls – all easy to get to. The Trace pure sign 4000 watt 24volt inverter/battery charger is located in the lazarette too. This lazarette is a working space that is easy to get around in for routine maintenance and inspection.  Bauer Jr. Dive Compressor w/100’ Hookah hose, and 4 tank storage unit.

COCKPIT:

This cockpit is a great place to Barbeque on the built-in LPG appliance or to just relax when at anchor. “Global Adventure” also has the extended swim & dive platform with stainless steel swim ladder. Behind the port aft locker is a sealed propane locker that is vented overboard and contains three braced aluminum tanks. A Glendinning power 50 amp system install on stern. A fiber glass consol with sink and fresh water faucet is also located in this area. There is a boarding door to starboard along the side deck and one aft to the swim platform.  The cockpit freshwater wash down makes it easy to maintain this area and there is a built in Scanvik hot and cold freshwater shower. Extra stainless steel handrails have been installed to make moving about easier and safer while underway.

FOREDECK:

Inside the aft part of the Portuguese bridge there is a large molded in storage area for stowing lines, hoses, shore power cords, fenders, etc.

The stout stainless steel double anchor roller is backed by a rugged Maxwell 24 volt windlass with chain stopper that can be operated by deck foot button and/or by a toggle in the pilothouse and Fly bridge.  The anchor is a 170 lb. Airtex Stainless plow and is attached to 400’ of Hi-test chain.  Shore power connections are located forward to port and include a 30-amp house, 50-amp house and 50-amp air conditioning connection.

BOAT DECK:

Leaving the pilothouse and heading aft along the port side you go up a few steps to the boat deck. Upper Deck has a Fiberglass stack and a Hydraulic davit on deck with power up and down with power left or right. The boat deck is equipped with the ships tender: Caribe 14 with 40 HP Yamaha outboard (not separately documented) that is mounted on custom chocks.  Life raft: Switlik 6 man CLR USCG MK 2 with hydrostatic release, EPIRB, cradle. There is a Reebok elliptical trainer for exercising, mounted on deck fittings, with canvas cover.
