Presenting “Obatala” one of the freshest 62’s we have ever offered.
The simple description: Double walk around, three state room layout with dry stack exhaust.
Symmetry is the common theme for “Obatala” from her double walk around side decks surrounding the saloon (making fishing and docking line handling easier) to her two search lights and two even sized satellite antenna domes. The decision to revert back to the round portlights in lieu of ovals added more openings and made sure that from the inside and outside the perspective was always level and balanced.
“Obatala” features an incredible selection of the latest modern voyager equipment including: commercial grade Furuno navigation, universal electrical system making this vessel adaptable to any shore power input in the world, flat screen televisions, FLIR night vision, twin generators, air conditioning (with back up air con pump and separate sea chest intake, hydraulic active fin stabilizers, hydraulic bow and stern thrusters, upgraded hydraulic power steering, a Lugger wing engine and features a Detroit Series 60 main with dry stack…
You can get all around the deck with side door hull entries and access from the stern bustle. It is extremely easy to reach any part of the deck at any level and from a docking perspective you have control stations not only in the cockpit for backing into a slip, but also outboard port and starboard on the Portuguese bridge. And the outside teak has been practically finished – varnished teak with a stainless handrail to trim the Portuguese bridge and a varnished teak cap rail to add elegance to the transom. The wood fronting the forward two thirds of the hull to deck has been sealed and painted with gray Awlgrip to provide a maintenance free and very attractive finish.
Inside “Obatala” you will find the luxury and craftsmanship that the Ta Shing yard in Taiwan is world famous for. The saloon is spacious, with large outboard windows and little things like opening up the pilothouse stairs by removing the backing and eliminating the overhead galley lockers over the counter. This 62 has an impressive pilothouse with Stidd helm chair, great access and visibility to three screens of electronics and a comfortable bench behind the helm for guests to gather underway. The bridge also includes a desk with swing out chair. The accommodations forward of the galley are comprised of the usual large master stateroom aft on centerline with ensuite head and shower and then two generous additional staterooms forward, each attached to it’s own head and shower. The most forward stateroom features a desk and a ladder access to the foredeck.
There is a stainless stem guard on the bow at waterline to help protect the hull from flotsam. The foredeck features two fiberglass deck boxes, two dory dinghies and a polished stainless steel crane. Dual anchors with appropriate ground tackle are in place. There is a “midship” shore power connection station to starboard. The ability to get to the cockpit from either port or starboard is quite convenient – made even more so with the outboard docking stations on both sides of the Portuguese bridge. The cockpit has an electric barbeque and backing station. The stern bustle includes a Glendinning shore power retriever and houses both a dive compressor and a storage tank for dinghy gasoline.
MAIN SALON
Entering the salon through a wide watertight door you are immediately struck by beauty, elegance and openness, this is an area that both flows and provides numerous comfortable seating arrangements. The saloon seems much larger than normal, partially because the aft overhead lockers in the galley were eliminated to provide this more open feeling.
There are two Ekornes chairs to port, surrounding an entertainment island which houses a flat screen television on a concealed lift. To starboard in the saloon is a beautiful dinette with the impressive “kneeling” table that can convert from a dining table to a cocktail table. The teak and spruce flooring balances the beautiful teak interior panels and the neutral off white tone of the overhead blends well with the Ekornes chairs and bone colored ultraleather.
The interior of “Obatala” is all satin varnished teak which has been carefully selected and beautifully matched. The floors except where specified are traditional varnished teak and spruce. The cabin doors have the new magnetic catches. All rooms have dimmer switches for the overhead lights.
