INTRODUCTION:
Yes, Eden made the cover of the 2013 Nordhavns Around the World calendar. Her owners had a dream to explore the magical and less traveled islands of the Pacific, and found tropical perfection in Bora Bora. Now it is someone else’s turn to enjoy a similar adventure – why not you?
The Nordhavn 47 design has already captured a prestigious place in the trawler world, garnering multiple accolades from major boating magazines for her durability, smooth ride, generous engine room, and wonderfully efficient layout optimized for a cruising couple or young family.
Eden is a beautifully maintained Nordhavn 47 that has been exceptionally outfitted and has an impeccable ocean-going pedigree. Acquired two years ago by her present owners with the express intention of crossing the Pacific Ocean from California to Australia, Eden demonstrated her seaworthiness and build quality day after day as her owners achieved their goal, keeping her crew safe and comfortable in everything from flat calm inshore waters to wild open-ocean seas that towered over her sturdy pilothouse. Put simply, the owners’ experience during more than 10,000 nm at sea allows for an unequivocal endorsement of this vessel as one of the finest trawlers ever produced, and Eden is an exceptionally well-equipped boat that is immediately ready for her new owners to embark on extended long range cruising. All of the popular factory options were selected at build time, and the current owners made a number of carefully-selected upgrades, including a state-of-the-art electronics package, to ensure that they could spend extended time at sea in comfort and safety. Each vessel system has been thoroughly exercised and “broken in” so she should be trouble free from the moment the new owners take delivery.
After successfully completing a yearlong cruise that included Mexico, French Polynesia, Tonga, Fiji, and Australia, Eden has returned to her original departure point in the San Francisco Bay, and thus represents a unique opportunity to buy a well-maintained and ready-to-cruise late model boat at a price nearly a half-million dollars below that of an equivalent new hull. To replace Eden as a new boat with comparable fit-out, including electronics, tenders, deck gear, and canvas, would take more than a year and run the buyers upward of US$1,400,000.
Please contact your Nordhavn salesman for more details and to schedule an appointment to view her.
ACCOMMODATIONS & LAYOUT
MAIN SALON AND GALLEY
Entering the salon your first impression will be one of luxury. The teak joinery is beautifully complemented by the dark granite countertops and teak and spruce sole. This single level room merges a spacious salon with an extremely functional galley making it easy to prepare, cook and serve meals and refreshments while enjoying the company of guests – there is plenty of room to stand or sit while conversing. The salon features a permanent teak dinette table to starboard with L-shaped settee. Under this settee, ready at hand and safe from the elements, is a top-rated self-righting 6-person Viking RescYou Pro life raft and an extensively outfitted floating ditch bag. The salon table features a gas strut that allows the settee to be used as an additional berth. To port are two reclining chairs with ottomans; these are perhaps the most comfortable spot on the boat to read, watch TV on the 32” high definition flat screen located forward of the settee, or simply nap away the afternoon. Every seat in the salon provides a great view of the surroundings through six large teak-framed Diamond Sea/Glaze windows – windows that are also durable, featuring ¼” (6mm) tempered glass and removable polycarbonate storm plates.
The salon transitions into an elegant galley that includes many brand name appliances. The careful thinking that informed the galley layout is exemplified by the double basin corner sink, which maximizes space for the rest of the galley while making it easy to rinse and dry dishes. To make cleanup quick and easy, the left-hand sink features an Insinkerator garbage disposal. The GE Profile propane range has four burners and a convection oven with electronic temperature control, and is properly trimmed with a stainless retainer to secure pots and pans while cooking underway. The black granite counter tops extend up along the forward bulkhead to provide a regal touch to the cooking area. There is excellent ventilation in the galley provided by an opening port light outboard, and a large GE microwave with exhaust blower is directly above the stove. The galley offers plenty of overhead and under-counter lockers for storing everything you need in proper seagoing fashion. The aft galley features a GE Monogram trash compactor with teak trim. The present owners have installed a Breville mini-oven capable of both toasting and small-batch baking, as well as a Cuisinart combination coffee and tea maker. Both appliances are secured against any movement in a seaway with industrial-grade Velcro fasteners. Forward and towards centerline is a house-sized Sub Zero refrigerator with a locking teak door. Underneath are two Sub Zero freezer drawers for cold storage; the bottom drawer includes an icemaker.
Next to the refrigerator are two deep pantry lockers with adjustable shelves. To starboard is a louvered door that conceals a full size GE washer and dryer.
At the forward end of the salon, a flight of five steps leads to the pilothouse, where all of the ships navigation and operational activities are coordinated.
PILOTHOUSE
The command center of the Nordhavn 47 is the elevated pilothouse, which affords a spectacular view of your surroundings. The windows are all commercial-strength and quality built by Diamond Sea/Glaze. Forward visibility is excellent through four large 12mm (1/2”) thick tempered glass panes. The forward dash cabinetry is teak, with instrument panels of non-reflective charcoal laminate.
The dash features four large 19” flat screens designed to maximize the helmsperson’s situational awareness. The far right display shows radar information from Eden’s state-of-the-art Furuno Navnet 3D open array, while the near right display presents high-resolution electronic charts with optional radar overlay. The far left display is dedicated to a sophisticated Maretron vessel monitoring systems that aggregates engine, tank, electrical, and environment data into context-sensitive screens customized for the boat’s current status – underway, moored, or at anchor. Finally, the near left display can be used to view a second fully redundant electronic chart or radar image – or even serve as a movie screen to alleviate crew boredom on long passages. A smaller 7” display to the left can be configured to show the image from the “backup” camera located over the transom.
The helm dash features an 18-inch “truck-style” steering wheel angled at 30° from the horizontal to make close-quarters maneuvering easy. On the flat horizontal dash the durable Morse main and wing engine controls are easy to reach, as are the joysticks for the bow and stern thrusters and the Furuno Navnet3D control panel. Outboard of the rightmost monitor are redundant autopilots control heads, VHF and HF radios, and the spotlight joystick. Between the inboard monitors are touch controls for the hydraulic stabilizers, anchor windlass with chain counter, and windshield wipers. The upper helm above the windows includes engine gauges and four full-color Garmin screens that can be configured to show virtually any information of interest to the crew, from wind speed to water tank level to rudder angle. To port of the helm is the dock for the Inmarsat satellite phone, and on centerline is a lighted binnacle and heel angle indicator.
An innovative electronics island extends aft from the starboard side of the dash area and houses all of the DC and AC breakers, shore power routing switches, and more. All of the electrical panels are clearly labeled and the voltage and current gauges are easy to read digital displays. Electrical distribution panels are hinged for access to wiring and each wire is labeled.
The overhead is finished in tan Majilite with an array of Cantalupi halogen luminaires for both area and task light – a rich treatment that is carried throughout Eden’s living areas. There is also a Lewmar opening hatch with bug screen; two dorade vents provide additional air circulation.
Secured in the center of the control area is a beautiful Stidd helm chair with white upholstery and matching powder-coated hardware. Captaining Eden from this helm chair truly provides the sensation of piloting a very large yacht – you have a clear view of the outside world while enjoying the comfort and protection of being inside the pilothouse; at the same time the large displays make it easy to keep track of the vessel’s performance and location. The pilothouse air-conditioning includes a reverse-cycle capability for optimum climate control, offering touch pad comfort whether at anchor or underway.
All the way aft in the pilothouse is a watch berth – a twin size mattress with memory foam topper. Just forward of the berth is a comfortable settee bench fronted by a permanent fixed teak table where captain and crew can enjoy lunch or just relax with a cup of coffee. The settee includes two slide-out chart drawers located directly below the foot landing.
A “media locker” is located aft by the galley stairs; this space is equipped with a permanently mounted 12-outlet power strip, DC power, 100-megabit and gigabit Ethernet switches, an HDMI link to the salon TV, and an amplifier to power the helm audio system. Above the media locker is a HP OfficeJet fax/scanner/printer and a Wi-Fi hotspot linked to the boat’s mast-mounted Wi-Fi booster antenna.
The pilothouse includes Dutch doors to port and starboard which lead out onto the Portuguese bridge. Outside you can go up and aft to port to the boat deck and flybridge, or out the starboard door make a quick turn to the foredeck or aft to walk along the covered side deck on the way to the aft deck. Just inside the starboard pilothouse door is a wet hanging locker with plenty of room for PFDs and “foulies”.
The pilothouse has a nicely curved staircase forward that leads down to the staterooms. This stairwell is beautifully varnished teak with a stainless steel handrail and grooved steps for good traction. The stairwell includes lockers outboard to starboard (books and manuals are tucked away behind a teak retaining bar, and this is a good spot for wine bottles) and also includes a separate Sub Zero freezer. The steps at the base of the stairway lift up for access to the gray water holding tank manual back up pump.
GUEST STATEROOM
All the way forward in the boat is one of the most impressive locations aboard, and could easily be confused with the master stateroom. The guest stateroom looks like it was designed for a basketball player, with headroom exceeding seven feet. There is a large double bunk to port with drawers below and a hidden pipe berth above for sleeping an extra crewmember – or grandchild – in a pinch. The bunk is fitted with a custom mattress with memory foam topper.
The high ceiling allows for lots of light and ventilation. Two large overhead hatches in the center of the room, along with two large oval port lights on either side of the hull, provide a pleasant diffuse light during the day. Two round port lights connect to the Portuguese bridge for protected airflow while underway, and a dedicated air conditioning panel gives guests control over their own environment.
To forward is a raised section that includes a generous head with teak and spruce floors and a large shower with bi-fold door. The gleaming white gelcoat walls, Kohler sink, Grohe faucet, and cream-colored marble counter top bring to mind an elegant home bathroom, and there are plenty of storage lockers for personal effects. The floor of the head incorporates a lift-up hatch that provides access to forepeak storage and the bow thruster for any needed service.
In the forward area of the stateroom are large lighted camphor lined hanging lockers on each side as well as extra storage lockers mounted up high and outboard.
To starboard in the guest stateroom is an impressive “office sized” desk with a swing out chair. A sensible working area like this has proven to be a huge selling feature in the design of the Nordhavn 47. The charcoal laminate and polished teak suggest the finishes of a high-end home office, and the layout is suitable for sending email or editing video of the latest adventure. Or lay down a drop cloth to quickly turn this area into a generous workspace for any onboard maintenance task.
MASTER STATEROOM
Headroom in the master stateroom is 6’6”, and as elsewhere the teak joinery here is stunning. The master is located amidships and the large queen sized island berth runs fore and aft for maximum comfort while underway. The berth features a custom mattress with a luxurious combination topper of memory foam and down; underneath, eight drawers provide plenty of room for clothes, and the mattress lifts up to offer even more space for infrequently used items. Above the bed is nearly four lineal feet of bookshelf space, carefully designed with retaining bars. To port is a full-length hanging locker with sliding doors, again camphor lined and lighted; forward a lined full-height locker is perfect for suits and dresses. On the forward bulkhead is a large mirror above a built-in bureau. Facing aft to starboard of the bed is the full height door that provides access to the engine room; its thick gasketing and double dogs ensure that the sounds and smells of the engine room stay there. There are port lights outboard to port and the master stateroom of course has its own air conditioning unit. A hatch and dedicated blower provides fresh air via an intake from the Portuguese bridge. This is a very quiet place on the boat, especially while underway, and a nice secluded area to read or sleep.
The master connects to a large head to starboard, which includes a granite counter and sink and a separate shower stall with seat. As in the guest stateroom, all fixtures are Grohe, and the finishes – from bright gelcoat walls to marble counter top to teak and spruce sole – are top notch. The entire enclosure is designed for simple maintenance and is ventilated by a port light and a shower exhaust blower.
WORKING AREAS
ENGINE ROOM
The engine room is located below the main salon and is primarily accessed through the full height door aft of the master stateroom. Aft a door leads to the lazarette, which makes it easy to access the engine room from the aft deck, or conversely to check the steering gear while underway without having to go outside. No one who visits Eden’s engine room fails to be impressed with the 6’+ headroom around the engine – Nordhavn’s signature “maintenance strakes” ensure that the motor is mounted as low as possible, optimizing both access and vessel stability. The continuous-use-rated Lugger main engine is perfectly installed on centerline, offering easy access to front, back, sides, and top, and is framed by a durable stainless steel cage that offers extra support and safety for conducting inspections while underway.
Spending time in the engine room is a joy. This inviting work area is well lit by DC dome lights – with LED bulbs where needed for reliability or in fixtures likely to be brushed by bare skin -- and sealed AC fluorescent bulbs throughout. One of Nordhavns truly innovative passage-making developments is the simplification of all ships systems; in particular, the gravity-fed fuel system and the keel-cooled dry exhaust main engine keep the number of pumps, through-hulls, and heat exchangers to a minimum. This is a reliable and dependable performance package designed for uninterrupted continuous duty for days – or even weeks – on end. The main tanks are positioned above the day tank to ensure that all fuel will be used, and a built in fuel transfer and polishing system keeps diesel clean. The entire engine room is insulated with lead sound-deadening foam and shrouded with perforated aluminum sheeting for a clean professional look. This finish is both attractive and effective: the noise level in the Nordhavn 47’s living spaces has been applauded by every magazine that has reviewed her, and to many editors the 47 is the quietest power boat afloat. All of the valves for fuel lines are easily accessed, clearly labeled, and color-coded – the last an upgrade by the current owners. As a late model N47, Eden has the optimized fuel manifold alcove forward and a hinged lid over the Racor fuel filter locker featuring a stainless steel workspace. The through-hulls are also clearly identified and easy to get to, with all intake through-hulls installed together above the main sump. (And every through-hull on board has an attached and properly sized softwood plug for use in the unlikely case of failure.) The amount of elbow room and open space makes it a simple task to inspect the oil level and coolant levels on the main, generator, and wing engine, and on-engine fuel and oil filters are right at hand.
Eden’s engine room features a Lugger wing engine with its own dedicated fuel supply to port, and a 12kW Northern Lights generator to starboard. Because both the wing engine and generator are made by Alaska Diesel and are based on the same engine block, spare parts are largely interchangeable. Moreover, the current owners upgraded the generator fuel filter to the same Racor 900 used on the main engine and for fuel polishing, further reducing the variety of spares and maintenance parts that need be carried. The ABT TRAC stabilizer fins, along with their hydraulic hoses and reservoir, are readily accessible, ensuring that engine room checks cover this critical system. Eden also has the optional Reverso oil change system for easy draining and filling of the main, wing and generator; making this job painless means there’s no reason to procrastinate on what can otherwise be a messy (but critical) task. Engine room floorboards are all clean white fiberglass, checkered for improved grip, and lift easily for inspection of the stuffing box and main sump. Collectively, these features, and the engine room’s thoughtful layout, ensure that underway checks are a periodic highlight, not an uncomfortable chore.
LAZARETTE
Located beneath the aft deck, the lazarette is accessed via a massive fiberglass deck hatch fitted with gas struts; a stainless steel ladder makes it easy to get down inside. The lazarette’s focus is the steering gear, which features a massive rudderpost with its own stuffing box, driven by a hydraulic steering system featuring redundant Accusteer pumps and Simrad rudder angle sensors. To starboard is the Xantrex 4000W inverter/charger, mounted under a plexiglass cover to ensure that it stays dry. Just forward of the lazarette bulkhead is a second charger, a 100A Mastervolt that can charge from virtually any shore power source worldwide. To port of the steering gear is the Village Marine Stowaway water maker, capable of producing 600 gallons of pure fresh water per day from seawater, even in warm climes. Next to the water maker is a Bauer Junior II dive compressor, a top-of-the-line unit that will fill a standard scuba tank in 30 minutes. The port side of the forward bulkhead features the main power distribution bus, like the inverter also enclosed in plexiglass, as well as an array of heavy-duty disconnect switches for batteries and loads. In addition to these critical systems, the lazarette provides a huge amount of space for storage of spares and provisions.
EXTERIOR
DECK AREAS
The Nordhavn 47 was designed from the outset to ensure that all deck spaces are safe, even during ocean passages. Light gray nonskid prevents slippage when wet or dry, but doesn’t heat up excessively in tropical sun. The foredeck and boat deck feature stainless steel stanchions and lifelines. The protection offered by the high bulwarks of the Portuguese bridge forward of the pilothouse makes it a very secure area for scanning the horizon while underway. The aft deck is similarly high-walled to keep the seas out, while large freeing ports at the waterline on the side and aft decks quickly shed any boarding seas. Access to the boat deck is via stairs on the port side aft of the pilothouse, stairs which are securely hemmed in by protective stainless steel railing. The boat deck is large and easy to get around, even with two dinghies securely stored in their chocks. A second short staircase leads from the boat deck to the expansive flybridge. With the naturally oiled teak stern cap rail as the only exterior wood to maintain, a thorough fresh water wash down with mild soap and a soft brush keep Eden as shiny as the day she was delivered.
AFT DECK
This aft deck is a great place to barbeque or to just relax when at anchor. The port aft coaming contains a sealed propane locker that is vented overboard per ABYC regulations, and contains three braced fiberglass tanks – the translucent material makes it easy to check fuel levels. A small deck plate provides access to a propane hose for the Solaire infrared barbeque. There is a boarding door to starboard along the side deck – this one features a sturdy eye overhead for attaching a block and tackle in the event of a crew-overboard situation – and one aft to the swim platform. The swim platform includes a flip-down stainless steel swim ladder that makes entry and exit a breeze, even when wearing scuba gear. The aft deck freshwater wash down makes it easy to maintain this area and there is a built in Scanvik hot and cold freshwater shower – in the tropics there’s almost no reason to shower downstairs. Extra stainless steel handrails have been installed to make moving about easier if a speedboat wake hits the boat, and a fishing rod holder is mounted on the transom to port, while a Lifesling is installed to starboard. The swim step extension aft of the transom door features two stainless steel staples that ensure safe exiting, as well as twin pop-up cleats that make tying up dinghies and kayaks quick and easy.
FOREDECK
The foredeck is access via the Portuguese bridge through a hinged molded fiberglass door on the starboard side. Immediately forward of the Portuguese bridge are two huge molded-in self-draining deck boxes, perfect for stowing lines, hoses, shore power cords, chafe gear, and cleaning supplies. The latches on these boxes fold flush, making the tops ideal spots to lounge in a folding chair while watching a tropical sunset. At the bow pulpit, the stout bronze double anchor rollers are backed by a rugged Maxwell 3500 electric windlass that can be operated by deck foot button or the AutoAnchor chain counter in the pilothouse. The anchor is a 121 lb. (55 kg) Rocna “roll-stable” type that grips tenaciously with minimal scope; it’s shackled to 360’ of 3/8” G4 chain. There is a fresh water deck washdown spigot and the area immediately aft of the rollers is smartly designed with a recessed “mud well” that drains overboard. The standard shore power outlets are located to port under a hinged cover, and include 30A house, 50A house and 50A air conditioning connections.
BOAT DECK
Exiting the pilothouse and heading aft along the port side deck, a few steps lead to the boat deck. This area is fronted by the gracefully sculpted fiberglass dry stack exhaust enclosure that features mounting wings and twin radar extensions. The boat deck is equipped with the two ship’s tenders: an AB 11’ DLX rigid inflatable featuring cushioned seating for four, an enclosed helm, an integral fuel tank, and a Yamaha 25 HP outboard with power tilt and trim; and a Walker Bay 8’ RID275 rotomolded hull with Hypalon tubes and a Torqeedo 1003 3 HP electric outboard. Both dinghies can be securely stowed for safe passage in rough seas, the AB via quick-release Weaver chocks and the Walker Bay via removable foam supports. The Steelhead SM1500 crane is ideally located on centerline for maximum utility; this hydraulic lift unit with proportional controls allows tenders to be launched over either side or the transom. Mounted just below the starboard boat deck overhang is a Forespar flopper stopper pole ready for quick deployment when anchoring out in a rough water moorage.
FLYBRIDGE
The view from the flybridge of a Nordhavn 47 is breathtaking. Its location atop the pilothouse affords commanding views in all directions. With the primary electronics duplicated at the flybridge helm, it’s an ideal place to run Eden while underway in nice weather, and perhaps an even better location to unwind once you have arrived at your destination. The stainless steel folding Bimini frame with khaki waterproof top provides a stylish cover to keep everyone dry when it rains and cool when the sun is out; sun-worshipers can fold it away in a minute or two. A smoked acrylic windscreen dramatically cuts the apparent wind, making the flybridge a comfortable space to lounge, even underway in breezy conditions. Twin Todd helm chairs let the captain and mate travel as a pair, and the upholstered bench seat just aft of the swivel seats provides room for four more, with ample storage below. Lockers forward and in the side coamings offer plenty of additional room for gear.

Included in the purchase price of Eden are two days of training by the current owners in the use of her onboard systems. Eden maintains a complete set of electronic instruction manuals, to be delivered to the buyers on a USB stick. In addition, paper manuals are available on board for all major systems.

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS
Eden is a U.S.C.G documented and registered ship. All recommended maintenance on machinery and equipment has been completed to manufacturer’s requirements by the owners. Maintenance, upgrade, and repair information is available on request. The owners are offering Eden now as they transition careers, and they are selling her with the plans to come back to PAE for a larger Nordhavn in the future based on the wonderful times they have had aboard in the past couple of years. This is an excellent opportunity and great value for anyone interested in purchasing an outstanding long-range passage maker at an exceptional price. The fact that she is located in the South Pacific makes her ready to cruise near prime tropical locations, at a substantial savings over having to cruise or transport her from the United States.
PRICE US $895,000
LOCATION Emeryville, CA
