The Nordhavn 43 offers deceptively spacious accommodations. The light, airy and open plan of the saloon and galley area is complimented by exquisitely detailed craftsmanship. Access to the saloon from the aft cockpit is via a robust 'dutch' door, which can be dogged down to seal out even the worst weather. Opal Lady's saloon offers a generous settee to port with copious storage beneath and a magazine rack fitted. To starboard is an L-shaped settee/dining with more storage beneath. The beautifully crafted dining table with teak starburst pattern is height adjustable. Floors in this area, and throughout the vessel are teak and spruce. The timber throughout is light coloured grain matched teak in a satin finish. There is a teak handrail overhead. Light vanilla coloured Ultraleather coverings on the settees compliment the neutral tones of the Luxaflex blinds, and the soft padded overhead panels. Discreet downlighting and reading lights (new LED’s) turn this area into a warm and cozy retreat after dark.
The Master Stateroom; The midships Master Stateroom is a real feature of the Nordhavn 43. Keeping this cabin low and central means maximum comfort and minimum noise whilst at anchor or passage making. The N43 stateroom fits this criteria perfectly. The queen size bed with upgraded custom made mattress is as big as her larger sisters on the Nordhavn 47. There is ample hanging locker either side of the bed and behind the OSR door with excellent lighting on opening. The head offers terrific space, stowage, mirrors and lighting, a large shower with a bi-fold door and seat, and a fresh water flush electric toilet. The TV is mounted to enable viewing from the bed with remote controls that give access to VAST and Austar/Foxtel. Access to the engine room is via a fireproof and waterproof teak veneered full height door on the aft bulkhead.

The Guest Stateroom; On the port side lies a deceptively large double berth, with much storage underneath the bed. There is a vanity desk to starboard and the port lights and deck hatches make this an a light and airy cabin, well suited for guests and family. Forward on the centreline there is an impressive head with a shower and manual saltwater flush toilet, offering redundancy should the electric toilet fail. Granite countertops and the white gel finish give it a spacious and clean feel.

Pilothouse; The pilothouse is the centre of action whist underway, and much thought has been given to comfort in this area. A raised settee and small dining table provide a great place for meals at sea. Below the settee are drawers large enough for paper charts. The vision is uninterrupted on all sides. Behind the settee there is a 'pilot bunk' to accommodate off watch crew. "Opal Lady" is equipped with a beautiful custom built helm chair by Navigator. This chair is fully height adjustable, and offers supreme comfort on long passages. To port of the helming station is the chart table, and beneath here is a full size Washer/Dryer. There is also an overhead SS handrail. Access to the portuguese bridge and boat deck is via port and starboard watertight 'dutch' doors. Four (4) Red Night lights are in the pilothouse for night vision.

(It is connected to both TVs and through to pilothouse, it can be viewed on the starboard Furuno Navnet fitted with a NTSC/PAL interface kit), Fusion Ipod Sound system with remote fitted into Master Stateroom and speakers to main saloon & pilothouse. Saloon TV/DVD, Master Stateroom TV. There is a Spare set of lower console panels. Courtesy night lights provide excellent movement through out the vessel at night, both inside and out.

Cooking on board “Opal Lady” is an absolute delight, with space and storage to delight even the most ardent chef! The galley is integrated into the heart of the boat and offers polished granite tops, deep drawers and cupboards for cooking utensils, and storage for those bulky kitchen appliances. The centrepiece of the galley is the upgraded, very large, top of the range Viking 4 burner gas stove with oven. This stove is large enough to cook meals for an army of guests. Overhead cupboards with down lighting, cooktop exhaust, microwave oven, loads of bench space for food preparation, plenty of power points, and a deep double sink with pull out shower type head, and separate Seagull Water Purification filtered fresh water tap compliment this practical and stylish working area. A 'Y" valve is installed for bypassiing sink water directly overboard. Cross ventilation is provided by the opening portlight above the stove.
Refrigeration; Opal Lady offers generous refrigeration and freezer volume, enabling her to provision for long periods away from the supermarket. Two U-Line front opening refrigerators, (one with icemaker). One situated under the galley bench, the other just to starboard adjacent to the stairs to the pilothouse. A large General Electric top loading deep freezer is located under a teak countertop to starboard, adjacent to the stairs to the pilothouse.

Electrical panel consisting of the following: Electrical AC/DC panel. One (1) parallel switch for emergency engine/house battery paralleling. Engine battery shut off switch and panel. Shore power inlet and AC system per design. Marinco #303SSEL-BX stainless steel 230 volt AC / 50 Hz. Interior outlets throughout, all galley and head outlets to GFCI protected. All new LED globes fitted throughout.

Battery and DC system; Five (5) NEW Ultimate N200AGM deepcycle 230 AH (8D) batteries for house appliances (1150 amps) and one (1) additional 4D for engine starting. One NEW (1) x 104 AH Electronics Battery located under the pilothouse settee, and a joint 110 AH Battery for the Genset/Wing. The engine start battery is isolated from the house batteries, which prevents the inadvertent discharge of the engine starting battery. Main engine has dual alternators - 160 amp large case for house and a 90 amp for engine start battery charging. Parallel switches provide for emergency engine starting or to parallel alternators in case of an alternator failure. Each battery secured with stainless steel tie down beams. 8 hp 12v Bow Thruster. Electrolytic control: All thru hulls are bonded together with a #6 green wire and tied into the 12 volt DC ground system. All hardware mounted below waterline i.e. Stuffing box, stern bearing housing, rudder shoe, rudder frame, rudder stuffing box is grounded into 12 volt DC ground system. Two (2) 6 cm x 15 cm (2-1/2" x 5-3/4") zinc plates tied into the 12 volt DC ground system. 3000W/120 Amp, 50 Hz inverter/battery charger included with remote panel at wheel house.

On deck, a raised anchor platform features a Maxwell 3500 windlass, heavy duty, double roller system and a water-tight Freeman hatch. She is fitted with a 47 kg CQR main anchor with 400' of 9.5mm BBB HD galvanised chain, which can be locked in position with the deck mounted chain stopper. Integral deck storage boxes are molded-in forward of the Portuguese bridge. An 18-inch wide starboard side deck allows exterior access from the cockpit to the Portuguese bridge and a fitted SS Hand rail has been factory added to enable easy line handling on the port side. The boat deck accommodates the two tenders with additional room for kayaks or other water toys. Two flopper stoppers with cradles are also available to prevent rolling at anchor. In addition, Opal Lady is fitted with paravane stabilising with deployment and retrieval system at the press of a button, for redundancy of stabilisation underway. The main engine shaft is fitted with 'Spurs' line cutters, a bow tow-eye is fitted at the waterline. A Guest Beamer remote spotlight is mounted on the pilothouse roof. There are 240V outlets on both the cockpit and the aft deck, and three 12 volt outlets. Acrylic fitted storm boards with s/s hardware are provided for security of the side saloon windows. Perhaps the best of the on deck features is the wide extended swim step fabricated in stainless steel with 'starboard' slotted decking, allowing for extra space when boarding, diving or fishing. There is a long robust boarding ladder mounted on the swimstep, allowing easy access into and out of the water. A Scandvik H7C fresh water shower is mounted just inside the swimstep.
Ground Tackle; Maxwell 3500 windlass fitted with a Maxwell Auto anchor 500C Chain counter, 47 kg CQR main anchor with 400' of 9.5mm BBB HD galvanised chain. Secondary anchor 65lb with 30m chain and 50m warp.
Safety Gear; 406 EPIRB, 6 man RFD liferaft, safety jackets, flares kit, horn, acrylic storm boards for all saloon side windows, lifebuoy.

“MV Opal Lady” (Nordhavn 43 Hull #37), was designed and built for long distance cruising. As with all the Nordhavn range of displacement trawlers, she is capable of crossing oceans, or coastal cruising and island hopping in safety and style.
Quite simply, "Opal Lady" is the most capable, well equipped and carefully maintained displacement vessel under 45' in Australasian waters!. Her experienced owners were specific in their requirements for safety, redundancy of systems, comfort and ease of operation.
Commissioned January 2009, she is built to CE compliance for the Austalasian/European electrical environment with 240V 50Hz systems and appliances throughout. This means seamless shorepower operation wherever she travels in those areas. Her owners specifially requested that redundancy of the vessels many systems be a top priority. Nordhavn passagemakers are considered by discerning mariners to be the ‘best of the best', with an outstanding reputation for robust engineering, and superb craftsmanship. “Opal Lady” is extremely well fitted out for offshore or coastal cruising. Her loving and adventurous owners have maintained her to the highest standard while cruising the entire Australian Coastline and Louisiade Archipelago over a period of three years since “Opal Lady” was first launched. She is presented in outstanding condition and ready in all respects to take her new owners on the adventure of a lifetime!

Engine Room; As with all Nordhavns the engine room offers full standing room at the engine with SS Handrail and a custom Tool Tray fitted. It is impressively sound proofed and designed in a way to have easy access to all systems. Opal Lady has a Lugger L1066T Diesel Main Engine (165hp) fitted with a ZF W 220 transmission with 3.79 to 1 reduction gear that spins a 5.7 cm (2-1/4") propeller shaft with the propeller being a four bladed bronze, 86 cm diameter x 71.1 cm pitch (34" d x 28" p) left hand rotation. The Deluxe engine instrument panel has a Murphy Powerview 101 fitted, with instrumentation for fuel burn, ltrs used, oil pressure, water temperature, voltage, RPM, hour meter, with alarms. Dual alternators: One (1) x 160 amp and one (1) x 90 amp. The dry exhaust is 10.2 cm diameter stainless steel running to the masthead. Engine room blowers are Dayton 230 volt AC 50/60 Hz to maintain engine room temperature. The engine room is also fitted with a Fire Suppression system compliance with CE specifications. The fuel system dramatically simplifies operation and increases reliability by delivering 4500 litres of fuel from moulded fibreglass fuel tanks to a central supply reservoir. The reservoir allows for fast and precise fuel consumption checks (both for the engine and generator) and collects water. A water sensor in the reservoir alerts the crew to any problems long before water reaches the separators in the Racor filter. The fuel filters are Duplex 75-900 - Racor #900 MA plus one engine mounted filter. This comprehensive fuel management system includes polishing, transfer capabilities and separate supply and return manifolds. Opal Lady is also fitted with a Yanmar 3YM30V wing engine and the Northern light 10Kw/50Hz Genset with sound enclosure and gen sep muffler, Reverso oil change pump for the main, ZF Transmission, wing motor and genset, American Bow Thruster (TRAC) 220 stabilizing system (keel cooled). 8hp 12v Bow Thruster., 3 x CruiseAir air conditioning systems with reverse cycle heat, Spurs line cutter on main shaft. Extensive spare parts inventory for main engine, wing and genset, Sight gauges on all fuel tanks. Lightning ground plane wired to mast. In addition to the water tank storage, a Village Marine "Squirt" watermaker offers 600 GPD fresh water making capacity.


"Opal Lady" is much admired - her reputation as a rugged passagemaker enhanced by her recent closure of a Circumnavigation of the Australian mainland, and Tasmania. During this entire trip, "Opal Lady" performed flawlessly, and generated immense interest in the Nordhavn brand. Her owners now have different horizons to explore on the land, and are offering her for sale in absolutely "Bristol" fashion. All systems are meticulously maintained, and she is ready to put to sea at a moment's notice. "Opal Lady" is an Australian Registered Ship. Her ship's log is kept in electronic format, her spares list is most comprehensive, and back-up support is offered by her original Nordhavn Australasian Sales Office. The Nordhavn 43 is widely regarded as the 'perfect' vessel for a liveaboard couple wishing to explore the remote and less visited waterways of the world, and "Opal Lady" is without doubt the most complete and beautifully presented example plying our waters.
