INTRODUCTION:
Rogue Manor is hull number two of the Nordhavn 43 series
and has been listed for sale by her original owners. This is lightly used, locally maintained 43 that has
explored up and down the Southern California coast and provided a wonderful
escape platform for her owners who both still maintain full time jobs. Getting in on the ground floor of the
43 design, Rogue Manor was set
up as a flybridge boat with the traditional two stateroom layout. Most of the
available factory options were selected at time of order including upgrading to
Granite counter tops and many extras were added at delivery including an
extensive navigation package, RIB inflatable, canvas, carpets, etc.
ACCOMMODATIONS & LAYOUT:
The Nordhavn 43 is a full displacement trawler designed for ocean voyaging and
easily handled by a cruising couple. The engine room is easy to maintain with
single Lugger dry stack main, wing engine and generator. Active fin stabilizers and air conditioning
help ensure comfort no matter where you are travelling. Nordhavn’s famous
engineering of all plumbing, fuel and electrical systems are featured in the
custom operator’s manual provided with each new build. Living spaces for two
couples with their own private staterooms and common area pilothouse and
saloon/galley make for a delightful environment inside with great visibility
and ventilation throughout the boat. Outside up top is a covered flybridge with two helm chairs and an extra
seat, with dinghy storage aft and an excellent ground tackle arrangement
forward of the Portuguese bridge.
The layout for Rogue
Manor includes: Forward head and shower, Forward Guest stateroom with a
double berth and desk, amidships Owner’s stateroom with ensuite head and
shower, full width salon with custom teak table and enclosed raised pilothouse
with a boat deck for tender storage behind and a Bimini capped flybridge with
two helm chairs above. .
For two adventurous sailors it
is hard to imagine a more suitable platform for extended cruising than the
Nordhavn 43. She is roomy enough
inside to provide plenty of space for living and storage of gear, and robust on
the outside ready for any sea conditions. Two Nordhavn 43s have crossed the Pacific and one continued westward to
complete a Circumnavigation – something only a handful of production
power boats have ever accomplished.
COCKPIT
Boarding the 43 from astern you
can either arrive by tender and access the cockpit from the swim platform or
enter by dock through either side of the cockpit (opening doors port and
starboard). The cockpit area is large enough to relax in chairs and has a large
access hatch for the lazarette below which houses the SCUBA compressor, water maker,
hot water heater, inverter, steering, batteries and lot of storage. The cockpit
is protected by the boat deck overhang and there is a beautiful varnished teak
caprail along the transom. A
cockpit shower for rinsing off after a swim using the large transom mounted
ladder and several rod holders for fishing keep this an active area. You can go
forward on the outside along the starboard side deck or enter into the salon
through the Dutch door.

hi-lo that folds up into coffee table size or can seat six for dinner. The
soles throughout Rogue Manor are solid teak planks and tastefully splashed with

visual priorities and orientation underway. A sophisticated navigation package with all of the

From the pilothouse you can exit
out either of the Dutch doors on the sides. To port you would head aft to the
boat deck and up to the flybridge. From the starboard side you can head aft to
the cockpit or up forward to the Portuguese bridge or continue towards to bow
to the anchor well and chain locker which is covered by a commercial Freeman
Hatch.
GUEST STATEROOM
Staying inside and descending
forward down the stairs to the staterooms there is a clever port light and
corner alcove that provides natural light in the stairwell leading to the
landing. From the landing you can go forward to the guest cabin. The GSR (guest stateroom) has a
comfortable double wide berth to port with storage below and a nice desk with
swivel chair to starboard. Overhead hatches and side mounted port lights provide
a lot of light and ventilation. There are hanging lockers and drawers for
clothing and great access to the sole for checking on tank tops and for
additional storage. Up front you have a battery bank for the bow thruster and
windlass. The head is a Groco K
manual and seawater flush unit (smart back up plan for the freshwater plumbed
electric toilet in the Master). There is a nice sink mounted into the granite counter with storage and
through hull access below and a medicine cabinet above. All the way forward is
a nice shower stall with build in storage lockers, a palm tree embroidered
shower curtain and a custom teak slatted floor adding an elegant and practical
touch.

bed stand counters on each side. There are also hanging lockers forward and aft
both outboard to port. A flat
screen TV is mounted on the starboard bulkhead for easy viewing in bed. The
head and shower are concealed behind a pocket door on the starboard side. This toilet is a Raritan freshwater
electric. There is a lot of storage with drawers and a medicine cabinet and the
shower features a seat (beneath is the starboard Wesmar active fin stabilizer)
and also has a nice teak slatted floor. The Master stateroom is spacious and quiet.

ENGINE ROOM
Aft in the master is the full
height door that allows you to enter the engine room (there is also a drop down
hatch aft in the saloon for access). The engine room is well lit with AC and DC
lighting and Rogue Manor has one of the original Lugger naturally aspirated
engines which provides more elbow room for getting around. The main is on
centerline, keel cooled with dry stack exhaust. Both the Northern Lights generator (starboard) and Yanmar
wing engine (port) are wet exhaust and all machinery has had regular oil
changes and proper service interval maintenance. The Nordhavn designed fuel valving system is easy to follow
and in addition to an oil change system, stabilizer hydraulics reservoir and
fire suppression system the engine room is carpeted and very easy to inspect
when you are doing your engine room checks underway.

BOAT DECK

a spacious boat deck which uses the mast and boom to launch and retrieve the
11’2” Caribe rigid inflatable. There is a kayak with custom mounts to starboard
as well as a survival life raft and fiberglass dock box for storage. The
cabling spooled on the electric winches was upgraded to Spectra line from the
original wire and the running rigging has been cleverly re-routed with the
addition of some cam cleats to simplify the launching process. Along the port side of the saloon
is a flopper stopper pole which can easily be deployed at anchor to settle the
rolling motion.

Rogue Manor, like all of us, can’t cheat time and is now seven years
old, but the care and maintenance regime that has been actively pursued since
day one has her looking bright and fresh and her beautiful appearance is not
just skin deep, but probes to the heart of every system. Regular washings, waxings and detailing
are routine and an extensive overhaul in 2010 on her sixth birthday was
undertaken to replace batteries and service all of the reliable hardware and
equipment that had done such a good. In 2007 the owners took Rogue Manor on her only
extended distance trip, the inaugural 1000 mile FUBAR Rally from Marina del Rey,
CA to Cabo san Lucas, Mexico.
