Our year started off with a gala New Year’s Eve party at the home of our dear friend Charlie Merritt, who lives in Oakdale, Long Island. We spent a week on Long Island, and then flew to St. Moritz, Switzerland and St. Anton, Austria to ski. We came back with all of our limbs intact and flew to the Florida Keys to begin house hunting. After six months of searching for the perfect place for both Evrik and ourselves, we signed a contract and left for the Bahamas in March. We cruised the entire Exuma chain and visited some of the most beautiful places we have seen in all of our cruising. We snorkeled and swam every day, exploring the underwater world the Exumas have to offer. We dove in a lost blue hole off of Nassau, where we encountered too many sharks to count. The water was above 80 degrees and crystal clear. We met many other boaters and hooked up with people who loved to dive and were cruising the world. We returned to Key Largo and closed on the house June 17th. We bought it completely furnished and moved in at the end of June. After six weeks, we boarded Evrik and headed back to Long Island. Our good friend Inger Hughes cruised with us, and we had a wonderful trip. We were delighted to have Inger aboard because she was in awe of the Intercoastal Waterway and its beauty. After six weeks on Long Island, we headed back. Along the way we stopped in Baltimore, Crisfield, Annapolis, Beaufort S.C., Little River (to visit my sister and her husband) and many other lovely places. We arrived home November 1st via the Okeechobee Waterway and the Key West Fantasy Fest. We were pooped and looking forward to being on land again. The house was in tact; no hurricanes this year, and all was well. We have been decorating and painting the house, working on all the things that need to be done, and are preparing for our first Christmas in our new home. Merry Christmas, and a happy healthy new year filled with love and peace.
