Greetings All: Mike McFadden, my cruising partner, and I are now in the San Francisco Bay area on my Nordhavn 46 "Resolution". We spent two nights at the St Francis Yacht Club (YC), a reciprocal benefit of my membership in the Seattle YC. The view from the pilothouse window of the Golden Gate Bridge was pretty special. Alex Rolfe (a cousin) and his girlfriend Lauren came down for dinner, we toured the newly relocated deYoung Asian Art Museum, Mike went off wandering in music stores in the Mission District and I found a bookstore. Friday we cruised up the Bay to San Rafael and the Marin YC, where I have boating friends from Northwest cruising. While Mike went off to Davis to visit friends, I had dinner at the Marin YC with my boating friends, then brunch with my cousin Laurie Rolfe. My nephew's friend Zach Blum came down from
UC Davis with his girlfriend for dinner. Tuesday we moved to Vallejo, where my old Air Force friend Rory Gardner came down from Vacaville for dinner with his son Scott (age 8, fascinated by the boat). Today we head back to San Francisco, then sail tomorrow headed south. We'll stop in Monterey, Morro Bay, Santa Barbara and other points to be decided, reaching Dana Point (between Los Angeles and San Diego) on Sunday 24 October. Nordhavn will work on the boat a bit, while I fly home for a few days (to vote for George Bush, Dino Rossi - Governor and George Nethercutt - US Senate) and Mike goes up to Pasadena to visit his grandparents. We'll depart San Diego on 5 November for Mexico and points south, reaching Los Suenos, Costa Rica about 13 December. Mike's younger brother Ryan will be with us for the San Diego - Mazatlan leg. More news as we go.
