Joe, Milwaukee, WI USA asks:
Thank you for sharing your experiences. I currently have a
boat on Lake Michigan and am just starting to take longer trips, my
question is, prior to buying your Nordhavn, how much if any long
disctance cruising had you done? What was your longest trip?
Scott Flanders from Egret responds:
Joe, on the Voyage of Egret website under Preparations there is a posting
laying out all the Egret crew's boating history. Quite honestly, we don't
have more boating history except local fishing and Bahamas trips from Ft.
Lauderdale prior to taking delivery of Egret. Aboard Egret our first
offshore long distance trip was from Ft. Lauderdale to Nantucket. From
Nantucket to Nova Scotia. The next offshore jaunt of any consequence was
joining the Nordhavn Atlantic Rally from Ft. Lauderdale to Gibraltar via
Bermuda and the Azores. Compared to the other boaters in this part of the
world the Egret crew are beginners. Our boat is simply that well designed
and engineered it makes us look better than we are. We have paid attention
to details and worked at learning our new joy of long distance cruising.
What we do is not rocket science or difficult. Like any single effort the
more time you spend learning your task the better you become.
Keep putting in the miles. Perhaps someday we will see you 'out here' in
your little fiberglass ship as well.
