In line with the Around The World journey of 2001-02 and the 2004 Atlantic Rally comes another great Nordhavn adventure: the Voyage of Egret. Egret, a Nordhavn 46 is embarking on a 16-month journey from Gibraltar to New Zealand by way of Cape Horn.
Scott and Mary Flanders, who took part in the Nordhavn Atlantic Rally on Egret, have set out on their own 20,000 nm course. They spent a year-and-a-half researching the project and have been eager to get out and experience this journey of a lifetime. “This trip is about taking a modern comfortable power boat from the Mediterranean to New Zealand via Cape Horn, [traveling] in as much comfort as possible and enjoying all that the voyage has to offer. We are going to see places few people ever get to see,” Scott said.
The trip will be covered right here with weekly log updates from the Flanderses while en route, tracking of Egret on it's phenomenal course and photographs documenting the adventure, News of the trip has already been recorded in several boating magazines with stories lined up in more publications in the U.S., Europe and Asia. It will be a fantastic read for boaters and adventure enthusiasts alike. Adds Scott: “I hope to encourage people to head offshore and enjoy some of the things that we – who do go offshore in our boat – get to see and do.”
Egret's planned arrival into New Zealand is December 2008. And we'll be right alongside with each passing wave.
