Crew comfort, whether on deck or below, is one of the most important and often-overlooked facets of long-range cruising. P.A.E. paid special attention to modifications to make onboard living pleasant in any climate. Key accommodations have been moved out of the places where pitching and noise are at their most extreme.
To maximize comfort at sea, the owner’s cabin is located amidships, near the axis of pitch motion. The private head features unique double pocket doors that enhance the sense of spaciousness in both the stateroom and head. The guest accommodations are cleverly arranged to keep the living and sleeping area as far aft as possible by locating the head forward. Guests are treated to a double-sized berth, a desk area and generous locker space.
A spacious pilothouse has room for a full-size helm chair and a 6’4” settee and pilot berth. With space for today’s most comprehensive electronics packages and a chart table, piloting the N43 will be a joy. Pilothouse ventilation is provided by an overhead hatch, opening front window panels, and heavy-duty Dutch doors. Wheelhouse windows have been enlarged for maximum visibility and are of half-inch tempered glass.
The saloon area features an L-shaped settee with dining table and a second settee for lounging and watching TV. Both settees are large enough to provide overnight accommodations for extra guests, or for the owner who prefers to sleep nearer the pilothouse during off-watch hours. Counting the pilothouse berth, the N43 can comfortably sleep seven. With a Dutch door opening to the aft deck, which itself can be enclosed with rain curtains, the overall living area is spacious, bright and cheerful, even on dreary days. For spectacular views on nice days, cruise with three of the five half-inch thick saloon windows open.
For the most serious cruises an additional 5 cubic foot, top-loading freezer is included opposite the galley. Locker space abounds in the galley and, beneath the port and starboard settees in the saloon, is space for months of supplies. The spacious saloon settees not only provide comfortable lounging space for up to eight people but also can be used as extra berths.
