While the design and construction details of the Nordhavn 62 are to commercial standards, the workmanship and choice of materials used in the interior rival today's most luxurious mega yachts. P.A.E. offers a number of different layout arrangements which have proven to be extremely functional for live-aboard use and extended cruising. In addition, the P.A.E. design team will often work closely with the client in customizing the interior to suit owners particular needs'. A typical layout includes a large master stateroom, two guest staterooms, plus one or more staterooms for captain and crew. Because the 62 is an inherently self-sufficient ship designed for short handed voyaging, most owners run their own ship, leaving more room for family and guests. A wide variety of woods and finishes are available, and in many areas light colored laminates are featured as a compliment to the wood paneling. No two Nordhavn interiors are alike, and most owners provide extensive input into the layout, furnishings and details of their yacht. Working directly with the P.A.E. staff, the client will get prompt, knowledgeable responses to requests and suggestions. Because the client will be working with those responsible for building the boat, this stage of planning, designing and personalizing the yacht will be a rewarding, enjoyable experience.
Inspired by the efficient, practical designs of commercial pilothouses, the 62's wheelhouse, with l/2" tempered glass windows, is located in an area of reduced motion and provides superior visibility around the entire vessel. There is a generous amount of room for installing a comprehensive, state-of-the-art navigation system, and P.A.E. has the experience to help with the details of designing a pilothouse that is both functional and comfortable. A settee and dining table enable crew and guests to join the captain while underway, and a day head is close by. Access to the lower level galley and main saloon is made easy by an interior teak stairway. For extended offshore passages, the pilothouse also features berths for the offwatch crew, a very nice touch for those lonely night hours at the helm. A number of different layouts are available, including one that provides a separate off-watch cabin. Outside, the captain and crew will appreciate the security of the Portuguese deck and walk-around side decks. Some owners have specified exterior wing steering and engine controls along the upper side decks, making docking maneuvers easier. The moment you step inside the 62's pilothouse, you'll know this ship is meant to take you anywhere in the world. As with so many other Nordhavn features, it is truly an original.
