NORDHAVN SALES OFFICE SPOTLIGHT: 

Nordhavn Europe


Nordhavn Europe Ltd. (NEL), Pacific Asian Enterprises’ (PAE) first international office, opened its doors in the Spring of 2004 – and the brand couldn’t have picked a more ideal time to establish a European sales presence. The location got a huge jump start thanks to its inauguration coinciding with the culmination of the Nordhavn Atlantic Rally (NAR), which saw 15 Nordhavns travel across the Atlantic from Florida to Gibraltar. The Nordhavn name - which at the time was relatively obscure outside the U.S. – enjoyed a major promotions boost from coverage of the NAR by the European marine press. And with so many Nordhavns staying to cruise the area, NEL co-president Neil Russell suddenly found he had several different models to show interested buyers. Further to this, Russell was given the task of selling the Nordhavn 57 that PAE staff used as a lead boat during the Rally. “It was a very exciting time for Nordhavn and Nordhavn Europe,” recalls Russell. “There was a definite buzz surrounding the name.”

More than a decade later, Russell, along with co-president Philip Roach, has built the location into a strong, successful representative of the Nordhavn trademark in Europe. With a staff of seven, which includes administration, marketing, and commissioning employees, NEL is new boat sales, brokerage sales, and service for local and visiting Nordhavns.
While Russell admits exchange rates have recently taken a bite out of new sales figures, the firm has chalked up more than 50 new boat sales during its tenure, with many being shipped to the Hamble Point office’s service center for full commissioning and delivery. They are currently gearing up for the arrival of 76#23, which will be the 8th N76 to be commissioned there.

Providing superior commissioning and technical support is a key factor to the success of NEL, says Russell. “We are very focused on after-sales support and service.”

Coincidental to new boat commissioning, NEL has become the hub for world-cruising Nordhavns that are in the midst of exploring the Med and Europe and in need of work. This summer Nordhavn 68 Migration called upon the Southampton location to tackle its punchlist prior to embarking on a history-making trek up to Svalbard, Norway, one of the northernmost points on the globe. Another renowned Nordhavn, the 64-foot Ocean Pearl, wintered in Hamble during the course of a two-year European adventure.

After the British pound sterling took a hit, Russell and Roach discovered a sort of counterbalance within the local brokerage market, which has found its footing the past couple years thanks to an increase in Europe-based Nordhavn owners. Currently NEL has 10 listings under its management. And when it comes to selling, whether brokerage or new build, Russell and Roach have taken an intriguing and valuable team approach: the duo literally share every customer who walks through the door, ensuring support is always at hand. “Philip and I work with clients together rather than as individual salesmen,” says Russell. “We feel this approach works the best for the European client and the client appreciates this sort of attention.”

That team tactic will be on full display mid-month as NEL prepares for its biggest marketing event of the year, their exhibit at the Southampton Boat Show. This year a Nordhavn 52 will be featured, making its public debut to the European customer base.
