The Nordhavn 56 Motorsailer is launched!
September 23, 2008
The long awaited launch of the first Nordhavn Motorsailer occurred over the weekend. But this was no ordinary boat baptism. It was reminiscent of a national holiday with hundreds gathered cheering and socializing in a party-like atmosphere complete with fireworks. Afterall, this was the coming out event of the Nordhavn motorsailer – the first sailing vessel of any kind produced collaboratively by P.A.E. and renowned shipbuilders Ta Shing Yachts since the last Mason 44 was built a decade ago. It brought the two companies around full circle whose partnership commenced almost 40 years ago. “N5601 is such an important project to P.A.E. and Ta Shing,” said Ta Shing president Tim Juan. “When we started on hull #1 on July 24, 2007, all the workers gathered and set off firecrackers to celebrate the special moment.
“After nearly 14 months, the very first baby was born. So on this launching date, firecrackers were once again set to mark this memorable moment.”
Mr. Juan commented that, more so than on any other project, the level of excitement displayed by the Ta Shing staff over the launching of the first Motorsailer has been incredibly intense.
The boat was lowered into the An Ping Harbor amidst cheers from those who had gathered to watch her splash. Among the crowd was Nordhavn Chief Designer Jeff Leishman and N56 M/S Project Manager Pete Eunson who said the boat was beautiful.
Echoing that sentiment was captain of the first Motorsailer, John Felton, (“looking very happy”) who joined Nordhavn salesman Eric Leishman on board for the first sea trials. Additional test runs are scheduled to be performed this week and the boat is expected to ship to Dana Point, CA at the end of this month.
