The first 76 was launched at the factory in Taiwan on Friday, thus commencing the first step in the multi-part process of preparing the boat for transport to California. PAE'S naval architect, Jeff Leishman, along with 76 project manager, Trever Smith, were on hand for the launching and gave the boat a big thumb's up. Notorious for being perfectionists and harsh critics, Jeff and Trever praised the craftsmen at the Ta Shing yard for creating a boat with the magnificence and grandeur that a 76-foot boat demands.
The brand new flagship of the Nordhavn line, this 76 demonstrates the popular aft pilothouse configuration, exuding a look and feel of being able to tackle the roughest of ocean conditions. Meanwhile, preliminary tests confirm the seaworthiness of the boat. For the next 10 days, she will continue undergoing sea trials and testing to make sure she is perfect, and then she will be put aboard the freighter Bluebill at the end of the month.
Countless people around the world have been following her construction process and there is certain to be a large crowd gathered to await her arrival at PAE's docks in Dana Point, CA. She is expected to arrive in late April and will be available for viewing in early May.
