Trans-Atlantic Rally
For Trawler Yachts
Will Run Again In 2006
In the wake of the successful Nordhavn Atlantic Rally, a group of trawler enthusiasts involved in the initial event aims to carry on what Nordhavn has pioneered with plans for a trans-Atlantic rally in the summer of 2006 open to all makes of ocean-capable motor yachts.
Pacific Asian Enterprises, builder of Nordhavn and organizers of the 2004 event, does not plan to host future trans-Atlantic rallies but will be involved as a supporting sponsor.
"The rally was a huge success, in every respect," says Jim Leishman, vice-president of Pacific Asian Enterprises, "In time, we may look at a rally to Southeast Alaska, or some other trips, perhaps at a lower level of responsibility and support, but as far as the Atlantic goes, we'll leave it to others."
The 2006 event will be called North Atlantic Rally to continue the NAR acronym that was widely used in reference to the initial rally. NAR 2006 will follow the same route, Fort Lauderdale to Bermuda to Azores to Gibraltar, a distance of 3,800 nautical miles.

The organizing group includes Georgs Kolesnikovs, founder of West Marine Trawler Fest, Bransom Bean, organizer of the Isle of Man entry in the BT Challenge round-the-world sailboat race, and Mike Martus, a key member of the organizing committee for the 2004 rally. Milt Baker, organizing committee member and rally advance team leader for the Nordhavn Atlantic Rally 2004, will serve in an unofficial advisory capacity as he and his wife, Judy, plan to cross the Atlantic in the 2006 rally in their own Nordhavn 47.
