10th Nordhavn completes circumnavigation
Nordhavn 76 Reliance wraps up two-year circumnavigation in Fiji, marks 12th global round trip by a Nordhavn
Just over three weeks ago, Nordhavn 76 Reliance arrived in Port Denarau, Fiji, almost exactly two years after her crew of 20-something guys departed on what was to be a journey of a lifetime. Just 23 at the start of the trip, Dalton DeVos stands as the youngest Nordhavn owner ever to circumnavigate, and during his time on board, he aged two years, but experientially his growth was immeasurable.
“The mental strength and understanding necessary to do something like this is not something that comes naturally or pleasantly,” said Dalton. “All that said, I could not be prouder of what we’ve accomplished.”
Among the crew’s achievements during their two years at sea are visits to 30 countries, including Antarctica, making a 3,500-nm non-stop passage from Costa Rica to the Marquesas, and rounding Cape Horn and the Cape of Good Hope. In total, they covered 49,477 miles, put approximately 5,500 hours on the engine and went an average speed of 8 knots.
The Reliance circumnavigation marks the 12th time a Nordhavn has lapped the world. Ten different Nordhavns – one N46 making the feat three separate times – have successfully achieved the milestone. Several other Nordhavns are currently amidst their own circumnavigations.
