Hands-on Diesel Classes offered for cruisers

(Ed. note: The Northern Lights Deerfield Beach (Ft. Lauderdale) branch has agreed to host another Hands On Diesel Engine class, targeting the week of 6 June. Contact bsenter@northern-lights.com for more information.)

For anyone living the cruising lifestyle – or for those thinking about the passagemaking way of life – Northern Lights, Inc. will offer a two-day engine room class this spring. The hands-on training session will focus on the maintenance, repairs and diagnostics captains and crew are required to make in the engine room of an expedition or cruising boat. Presented by Northern Lights’ education specialist Bob Senter, the class will encounter real-life situations while working with a running Lugger marine engine and Northern Lights generator, and be given the tools to analyze, resolve and prevent future issues. “The objective is to provide the confidence and comfort to perform these duties yourself,” said Senter.

The training is open to anyone, but, warns Senter, it is very in-depth and will likely appeal only to those who are currently passagemaking or are seriously considering long-range cruising.

There will be two sessions held this May at Northern Lights’ Training Center in Seattle, Washington:

May 3-4, 2011
May 17-18, 2011

Cost of the class is $400/person. Space is limited to just 8 people per class so early reservations are recommended. (A deposit of $100 is required upon registration.) Training days begin promptly at 8 am and finish at 5 pm with a 45-minute break for lunch. Refreshments and lunch are included.

For inquiries or reservations, please contact bsenter@northern-lights.com or call 360-531-1444 or visit http://www.northern-lights.com/news.html. The Northern Lights Training Center is located at 4420 14th Avenue NW, Seattle, WA 98107.

Based on demand, additional trainings on the east coast may be added.
