Nordhavn enjoys successful FLIBS
Show is punctuated by debuts and announcements
If there was any question as to Nordhavn’s quest to continually stay ahead of the curve – in all aspects of boat building and marketing – it was put to rest at the 2018 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show. Confirmation of the brand’s commitment to innovation began with the debut of the 59 Coastal Pilot Motoryacht edition and ended with the announcement of a unique celebration of Nordhavn ownership.
The 59 Coastal Pilot Motoryacht edition is the optional layout to Nordhavn’s moderate displacement cruiser. The 59CP MY showcased Nordhavn’s response to those who prefer relaxation over water activities. Attendees loved the extended deck feature of the MY (which replaces the cockpit of the standard CP layout typically used for stowing water toys used by ocean sporting enthusiasts). Of course, the most popular area of the boat was the stellar engine room. 5902 is available for purchase, but we’re betting not for long based on the response. Contact us if you would like to discuss this boat further.
On the other side of the pier was a beautiful Nordhavn 76. Customers treated to this N76 were impressed by its size and accommodations: four-stateroom layout with captain’s cabin, huge aft deck, Jacuzzi, gourmet galley and flybridge. This owner continues to make cruising milestones and experience wonderful new destinations with his extended family.
Collaboration with Vripack The other big reveal at the show was the announcement of Nordhavn’s collaboration with renowned Dutch design firm Vripack, who are working on optional interiors for the brand new N80. The announcement was made at a press conference which was highlighted by a virtual reality tour of the computer generated renderings. The Scandi design style was reflected in the muted colors and emphasis on natural materials. “Nordhavn’s DNA embodies a design philosophy that is a perfect match with our own ethos; making Owners feel at home at sea, that is why we connect so well,” said Vripack co-owner, Bart M. Bouwhuis.
21st Century Boat Buying The first Nordhavn 80 is not due to launch until early 2020 but clients at the show were able to experience the next best thing to climbing aboard the actual hull: a 3-D tour of the proposed interiors. Visitors to the N80 Interior Design Experience at our FLIBS display donned 3-D goggles and were able to inspect multiple concept rooms. “You can look at a blueprint of the interior, but [the goggles] really give you a sense of what it would be like to be sitting on that yacht,” said one attendee.
Big announcement number one: If you didn’t catch Jim Leishman’s interview on Power and Motoryacht’s and Yachts International’s Facebook Live, then you missed some big revelations by Nordhavn’s vice president. First was the reinstatement of the PAE adventure – this time a trip through the Northwest Passage onboard a customer’s Nordhavn 52. Plans are still being finalized but talks are centered around a June departure. Staff from PAE will accompany the owners as they travel west to east through the historical sea passage. Big announcement number two: Nordhavn film festival Getting a feel for what life on a Nordhavn is like is made a whole lot easier when there are countless blogs and images that document it. But even more impactful are the vlogs and videos owners upload. At FLIBS – and really, any boat show we’re at these days – we are constantly told how much people enjoy watching the videos on our site. More and more, it has become serious business for owners to present high-quality videos that convey how much they enjoy their cruising lives. Their efforts are inspired and triggered an idea that will allow us at PAE to both celebrate and encourage their productions: it is with great excitement that we announce the first annual Nordhavn Film Festival, open to all current Nordhavn owners. There will be multiple categories and certain (but not many) rules to adhere to. The winning entries will be shown at a premiere next fall prior to the 2019 Fort Lauderdale Boat Show. More details will follow soon!
Speaking of celebrating owners No Fort Lauderdale Show would be complete without the Nordhavn Owners gathering. It was great to see old faces mixed in with the new, hear recounts of adventures taken as well as plans for exciting voyages yet to come. The Nordhavn Owners group is an exuberant, interesting and motivating bunch of people. Being a part of this club is nearly reason enough to go out and purchase your Nordhavn.
