Q & A with N59 CP Project Manager Garrett Severen
Garrett Severen is a 14-year veteran of Pacific Asian Enterprises. He started his career as a commissioning tech and worked his way up to project management. He has spent the past six years overseeing the 72/76 project and this year adds the 59 Coastal Pilot to his resume. Garrett took some time out of his busy schedule to discuss this latest endeavor.
Q: There have been a lot of construction photos issued over the past couple of months. What exactly are we looking at here? GS: The photos show the deck mold being fabricated at our partner factory, South Coast Marine, in Xiamen, China. A wood plug was made and the mold is in the process of being cast around the wood plug. One photo shows the transom being laid up in the previously completed mold tooling.
Q: When will commencement on the actual hull #1 begin? GS: The first hull has begun the lay-up process. The hull has had gel coat sprayed and several layers of fiberglass have been applied. The transom has been laid up as well.
Q: What is your schedule for visiting the factory and checking on this model? GS: I visited South Coast in early January to inspect the deck tooling. We spent quite a bit of time discussing certain features that will really make the Nordhavn 59CP stand out from the rest. I will be visiting again in the next few weeks.
Q: What are you most looking forward to as PM of the 59CP? GS: As project manager of the Nordhavn 59, I am most looking forward to being part of a hull number 1 build. A ton of work and engineering has gone into the project and I am really excited to see hull number one splash into the water for the first time. I am looking forward to playing a role in the interior design package of the N59 CP as well. The whole project is exciting – I feel like it’s going to be a very complementary design addition to our current product line.
